Other destinations like Kumarakom, Thekkady, Munnar, etc are residential locations with Tourists settling there temporarily. Hence we suggest implementing this unique project in the three major backwater cities, with top priority given to Cochin & Alleppey.

What is a Gateway Centre?

It is an ‘all in one’ facilitating centre for Tourists at the gateway cities, where Tourists can satisfy all their requirements without any intermediaries. Lets take the case of Cochin, even though it is the commercial hub of Kerala, it lacks good Boating Centres to anchor the boats, no proper Boat Booking Centres, vastly scattered Travel Assistance Centres, no proper I.N. Standard Toilet Blocks, no safe Cloak Rooms, etc. Hence we can take the initiative to start a state-of-the-art COCHIN BACKWATER GATEWAY CENTRE along the ideal backwater location, with provision for the following amenities-

1) Anchoring Births for House Boats, Motor Boats & Speed Lounges separately.

2) A Set of Reservation Kiosks for House Boats & other Boats.

3) A set of Handicraft Emporiums.

4) A set of Cloak Rooms.

5) A set of modern Toilet Blocks.

6) A set of Travel Assistance Centres.

7) A hi-tech Amphi Theater for the presentation of Art Forms.

8) A good number of Art Café’s.

9) A Police Assistance Cell.

10) Units of Railway & KSRTC Reservation Centres.

The Gateway Centres will be designed to have all these facilities topped with ample space. The Investor will have to bear the Capital Expenditure. Once constructed, these outlets can be leased to Tourism Retailers on a good margin. A monitoring cell to monitor the maintenance & hygienic condition of the structure should be set-up. It should be on par with International Standards with access to Tourists only. The selection of land is very critical and hence co-operation from the Government and City Corporation should be guaranteed first. This is a novel venture with the Profit Ratio being very high.
